Dutch Bass Baritone Julian Hartman feels at home on the Opera and Concertstage. First engaged  at the Luzerner Theater (Switzerland) where he was chosen by Marcello Viotti to be in the ensemble singing roles including Dulcamara, Papageno, Schaunard and with big succes Leporello. Both in Lucerne as in Theater Freiburg (Germany) he sang Bottom in  A midsummernight’s dream.

He continues his work on the operastage most regularly in the Netherlands with the Netherlands Opera (Amsterdam), the Nationale Reisopera (Enschede), Opera Zuid (Maastricht) and the Vlaamse Opera (Antwerp, Belgium) Opernhaus Köln (Germany) in Glückliche Hand, Un ballo in Maschera, Faust, Le nozze di Figaro, Madama Butterfly, Parsifal, Billy Budd, Lulu, Don Carlos, l’Anima del filosofo etc.

Engagements included Buonafède in Il mondo della luna with the Radio Kamer Orkest and Adam Fischer in concerthall Vredenburg, Utrecht, Holland for TROS Radio. Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana for Opera Zuid (David Parry/Christopher Alden). Schlemil/Hermann in Les contes d’Hoffmann (Jean-Claude Casadesus/David McVicar) and Yamadori in Madama Butterfly (Silvio Varviso/Robert Carsen) 2. Gralsritter in Parsifal (Stephan Soltesz/Fred Berndt) for the Vlaamse Opera and broadcasted by BRT-television. Moralès in Carmen for Opera Zuid (David Jones/Calixto Bieito). Idreno in Armida on the Haydnfestspiele, Eisenstadt, Austria (Adam Fischer/Michael Shilhan) broadcasted by ORF-television.

Amongst various radio- internet- and televisionrecordings Julian Hartman recorded for  CD Villotto in La vera costanza and Melibeo in La fedeltà premiata (J.Haydn) (2009, Brilliant Records) and the arias in several complete recordings of St.Matthew Passion (Bach) Messiah (Händel) Requiem Verdi.

Julian Hartman has been privileged to work with conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Silvio Varviso, Jean-Claude Casadesus, Marcello Viotti, Stefan Soltesz, Edo de Waart, Frans Brüggen, Ton Koopman, Jan Willem de Vriend, Ed Spanjaard, Oliver Knussen, Gabriël Chmura, David Parry, Bernd Kontarsky, Elgar Howarth, Richard Hickox.

His musical work has taken him to musical festivals in the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Austria and the USA.
Musical highlights include live broadcastings from Holland Festivals at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam in War and Peace and der Schatzgräber, both conducted by Edo de Waart. IMF Luzern in the male leading role in the worlpremiere of Das Lachen der Schafe as also Presto in Les mamelles de Tirésias. The leading bass, Melibeo, in La fedeltà premiata on the Haydnfestspiele, Eisenstadt, Austria as also on the festival of Besancon. Seneca in l’Incoronazione di Poppea on the Massachusetts festival of the arts. Supporting roles on the Gergiev Festival in Salomé and Manon Lescaut (Rotterdam).

Mainly in the Netherlands Julian Hartman sang in a big repertory of oratorio. Lukas, Johannes, Matthäus Passion, Magnificat, Weihnachtsoratorium (Bach) Matthäus Passion (Telemann) Schöpfung, die Jahreszeiten, Paukenmesse (Haydn) Stabat Mater (Haydn, Schubert, Rossini, Dvorak) Svata Ludmilla (Dvorak) Messiah, Samson, Judas Maccabeus, Joshua (Händel) , Te Deum (Charpentier) Krönungsmesse (Mozart) Requiem (Mozart, Duruflé, Dvorak, Fauré, M.Haydn, Hidas, Salieri, Verdi) Messe Solenelle (Gounod) Petite Messe Solenelle (Rossini) Messa di Gloria (Puccini) In terra pax (Martin) Paulus, Elias (Mendelssohn) Oratorio de Noël (Saint-Saens) l’Enfance du Christ (Berlioz) etc.

In the recent years Julian Hartman made his debut at the Residentieorkest as Christ in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion conducted by John Nelson. Followed by a concerttour as Hérodes in Berlioz’ l’Enfance du Christ with the Brabants Orkest conducted by Michael Tabachnick.
He made his debut in Beethoven 9th Symphony during a concerttour with the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie conducted by Shunji Aratani.
Julian Hartman made a concerttour with the Requiem Verdi with the Ukrainian State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Martin Panteleev. He sang the bass-part in Mozart`s Requiem with the Ukrainian State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jeroen Weierink during the Tjernobyl Commemoration in Kiev (Ukraine) followed by a tour through the Netherlands. All tours ended with a final concert in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

2013 he sang Chasseur in the celebrated production of Guillaume Tell from Rossini (tv) (Paolo Carignani/Pierre Audi) as also one of the players in ' the Player' from Prokovief and in 2017 a Janitschar in Mozart's Entführung aus dem Serail (Jérémie Rhorer/Johan Simons) at the Nationale Opera in Amsterdam.

Julian Hartman graduated with a theaterdegree from the ‘Hogeschool voor de Kunsten’ in Baarn, the Netherlands followed by studies vocal technique with Joy Workum, Sir Donald McIntyre, Stephen Sweetland, Aafje Heynis, David Wilson-Johnson and Peter Harrison.
